West Cumbria has major assets which will be used as the foundation for building a successful and sustainable economy.

The area is at the forefront when it comes to the global nuclear industry and has over recent years begun to gain considerable expertise in renewable energy, in particular offshore wind farms, as well as oil and gas.

The Britain’s Energy Coast™ is designed to consolidate and build on West Cumbria’s existing position to create a diverse economy that is competitive in the wider energy and environmental industries.

In the nuclear industry employment, research and development well above the regional average but there is already a high levels of skills in environmental remediation, engineering and nuclear decommissioning.

The decommissioning process at Sellafield presents a wide range of opportunities and ultimately a springboard for the regeneration of the area. This means the ‘energy’ in Britain’s Energy Coast™ extends beyond the energy sector and this is true for West Cumbria’s assets. Close proximity to The Lake District and mile-upon-mile of stunning coastline make West Cumbria a popular tourism area that is ripe for growth.
