Energus /

The aim of ENERGUS is to be internationally recognised as a world class centre; providing vocational skills excellence that spans further and higher education for the nuclear, renewable energy and environmental restoration industries. It will be a dedicated centre of excellence and innovation that provides a range of training, education and business support services, geared to skill up the local workforce and make the most of the opportunities these industries hold.

ENERGUS is being built on a 7.3ha site at Lillyhall Business Park in West Cumbria, and at present operates from a serviced office in Lillyhall Business Centre. It will be the Cumbrian delivery arm and north west flagship of the National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN).

In addition to providing a core set of courses and activities for the NSAN, ENERGUS will develop services specifically designed to meet the needs of the local supply chain. These could range from simply hiring its world class facilities for meetings and conferences through to specifically designed skill based training. ENERGUS will also help deliver engineering courses on behalf of the University of Cumbria.

The two storey state of the art building will have around 5,500m² of floor space and include engineering and construction workshops, training and meeting rooms, a lecture theatre and a learning resource centre to support hot desking and distance learning.

ENERGUS is a limited company overseen by a partnership between the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the Northwest Development Agency, West Lakes Renaissance and Sellafield Ltd. Additional representatives from local industry make up its Board of Directors. In addition to the partners referred to above funding has also been secured from the Northern Way and the European Regional Development Fund initiatives.

This iconic development is a key part of a drive to turn West Cumbria into a global centre for energy, environment and technology, consistent with the aims of the West Cumbria Masterplan and the Energy Coast initiative.
