Site nomination criteria
Nominated sites have to show that they meet the Government’s strategic siting assessment criteria. The table below shows the criteria.

- Demographics
- Proximity to military bases, activities(training, storage of explosives etc.) and air traffic and military air traffic zones
- Proximity to hazardous industrial facilities and operations
- Proximity to civil aircraft movements

- Flooding (including Tsunami and storm surge)
- Coastal processes (erosion or other landscape change scenarios)
- Information about other milltary activities: e.g. technical sites and transmitters, offshore danger areas and ports
- Internationally designated sites of ecological importance (e.g. SSSIs, Nature reserves, conservation zones and heritage areas)
- Areas of amenity, cultural heritage and landscape value (e.g. National parks, AONBs, archaeological sites and monuments)
- Size of site (must be large enough for storage of ILW/spemt fuel)
- Access to suitable sources of cooling.
