Housing Market renewal /
Creating the right housing in the right places to meet market needs of local communities and newcomers alike is essential for the future West Cumbrian economy.
With significant employment and investment opportunities arising as a result of the Britain’s Energy Coast™ programme, it is vital that new homes are created and existing homes upgraded to meet the needs of a wide variety of people.
Funding will be channelled into providing suitable sites for developers. Homes will range from quality affordable homes for young people and first time buyers to student accommodation and new executive homes.
Under the current Housing Market Renewal programme it is anticipated that 150 new homes will be built and another 340 upgraded between now and 2011. The key areas for housing renewal are in South Whitehaven, Workington and Barrow.
And this is just the start of a much longer programme of work to improve the quality and range of housing.
West Lakes Renaissance will lead on the Housing Market Renewal Programme with support from local authorities and the Homes and Communities Agency.
