Inward Investment support /

West Cumbria has major assets and internationally competitive expertise and skills in a range of energy related activities, including environmental remediation, engineering and nuclear decommissioning.

This programme supplements the work of Invest in Cumbria to grasp the opportunities that will arise from these unique and sought after qualities among businesses, not just in the UK and Europe, particularly France, but across the globe.

It is important that the momentum that has been achieved to date is not lost. Following the selection of the successful Parent Body Organisation for Sellafield, there will be opportunities arising out of the teams that are selected at the sub-contracting level. As well as the opportunity for the local supply chain, there will be further new inward investment created by the gap opportunity that will arise from new contracts being placed.

It will also be important to focus the activity given the twin mission of maximising economic development activity as a result of decommissioning, as well as managing the new physical regeneration opportunity surrounding the new build potential.

West Lakes Renaissance will seek to secure the £500,000 needed to support the project which will run form 2008 to 2011.

Other partners involved are the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the West Cumbria Development Agency.
