High Quality Hotel Provision /
Tourism already provides a substantial contribution to West Cumbria’s economy in terms of money and employment.
However, it is relatively small in comparison to the effects of tourism in the Lake District – the boundary of which lies largely outside the Britain’s Energy Coast™ boundary except for the area around Ravenglass.
In order to attract trippers to the Lake District and visitors to West Cumbria on its strengths, work is needed to improve the standard and variety of accommodation.
Already plans are afoot to attract a developer who will build a four-star hotel on Whitehaven’s regenerated harbour. The Whitehaven Harbour Hotel will not just offer high quality tourism accommodation set against superb sea views, but also create good employment prospects.
The hotel programme also addresses the need for better conference facilities in West Cumbria to meet the increased demands of business, tourism and also to cater for local businesses.
