The success of high growth businesses can have huge ramifications for economic success.
The Enterprise Support programme for high growth businesses in West Cumbria either directly or indirectly linked to the specialist nuclear and related sectors, will offer a wide range of opportunities for businesses growth, investment and employment and diversification.
The programme is a continuation and modification of successful work that has already been undertaken within joint programmes by West Lakes Renaissance, West Cumbria Development Agency and NWDA since 2003. Progress has also been made thanks to clarification of the Business Simplification Support Programme – a programme designed to make it easy for businesses to receive the support it needs to flourish.
The £12 million needed to take this forward from 2010 to 2015 will come from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform along with Business Link.
The next step is to look at evaluating what is already being delivered and available and work with the local business community to determine how future support can best be invested.
Building on nuclear strengths is vital, as is widening our business base beyond Sellafield to wider nuclear markets here and abroad and to making the most of opportunities arising out of the emerging energy and climate change agenda.
We will also ensure that the project is procured, delivered and implemented under the Business Simplification Support Programme principles.
