Commercialisation Support /
Highly skilled capability within Sellafield brings with it the potential for huge investment through technical and commercial support.
The Commercial Support programme runs alongside the Technical Support programme, both with the same aim of spreading the financial benefits stemming from the existing know how, techniques and processes taking place at Sellafield.
The project will also have essential links to the unprecedented investment taking place within the National Nuclear Laboratory, University of Cumbria, UCLan at Westlakes Research Institute and the Dalton Institute.
The work could centralise around both existing and new firms that are looking to join the nuclear and energy supply chain in West Cumbria. The ultimate aim of both programmes is to ensure the skills gain and financial investment stays within the local economy.
The Britain’s Energy Coast™ Masterplan is about acting locally and thinking globally.
To date, external advisory support from Grant Thornton is taking place with a view to completing a scoping study in summer 2008. From this, an action plan will be drawn up to ensure that companies truly feel the benefit of the programme, which will run for 10 years.
West Lakes Renaissance is the lead body in the programme and will help to secure the £5 million worth of funding needed together with the Northwest Regional Development Agency, West Cumbria Development Fund, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the successful Parent Body Organisation that will be in charge of the clean up process at Sellafield.
The programme will also receive partnership support from the West Cumbria Development Agency, Sellafield Limited and the Regional Supply Chain project.
